This case study explores how Perci Health overcame this hurdle by partnering with 8foldGovernace. By providing expert support, we helped Perci ensure compliance with all necessary standards
The word “cancer” has a powerful and often devastating connotation, symbolising something destructive and difficult to overcome. This perception is understandable, given the staggering statistics: in 2021, the UK saw nearly 400,000 new cases, with almost 3.5 million people currently living with a cancer diagnosis. This immense pressure on the NHS has led to missed targets for diagnostics and treatment, highlighting a critical need for additional support.
Perci Health was founded to address this gap, with a mission to provide comprehensive and personalised support for people living with and beyond cancer. However, to expand their services and make a greater impact, they needed to successfully register with the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The CQC’s stringent standards are designed to ensure safe, high-quality care, but navigating the registration process can be complex for a growing company.
This case study explores how Perci Health overcame this hurdle by partnering with 8foldGovernace. By providing expert support, we helped Perci ensure compliance with all necessary standards, enabling them to expand their service offerings. This success was a crucial part of their journey, culminating in a successful fundraising round of £7.7 million, which will allow them to help even more people impacted by cancer.
Perci Health is a virtual care clinic that provides comprehensive, personalised support for people living with and beyond cancer. They connect individuals to a multidisciplinary team of NHS-registered cancer experts, including nurses, dietitians, psychologists, and physiotherapists, through a digital platform, offering one-to-one appointments and expert-led content.
Their services aim to address the physical, psychological, and practical impacts of cancer, bridging the gap between cancer treatment and wellness, and helping people manage long-term effects and optimise their quality of life.
Perci faced a critical hurdle in launching their planned support services: achieving registration with the CQC. As the independent regulator for health and adult social care in England, CQC registration is mandatory for any organisation delivering what is considered ‘regulated activities’. With ambitious growth plans, registering with the CQC was an essential ingredient for Perci’s growth plans.
Perci’s main challenge was a lack of internal expertise on the CQC registration process. To succeed, they needed to:
Perci also wanted to establish internal systems and ways of working to ensure ongoing compliance with CQC regulations and other industry standards, enabling best practice and patient safety.
Perci Health partnered with us to develop a comprehensive strategy for CQC registration. The goal was to ensure this process was seamlessly integrated with their overall business objectives and go-to-market plans.
The CQC registration process can feel complex, but 8fold made it clear and manageable from the very start. We felt confident throughout the project thanks to their guidance and expertise, and we really valued how supported we were at every stage.
Our initial step was a CQC review to help Perci Health understand how the regulations applied to their specific services. Nick Pavard, our CQC lead and a former CQC inspector, collaborated with them to assess their current and planned service offerings. This initial consultation was crucial for determining the necessity of CQC registration and outlining the requirements for a successful application.
Following the initial review, we worked with Perci Health to address the identified gaps necessary for successful registration. This included
As a result of our partnership, Perci Health successfully registered with the CQC. We helped Perci Health prioritise key compliance initiatives and implement necessary actions that they lacked the expertise to tackle alone. Without our systematic approach, they might have faced a disorganised and time-consuming effort, leading to delays and extensive rework. This allowed them to get to market faster.
Working with 8foldGovernance has made a huge difference to our compliance journey. As a cancer care provider, we knew the CQC registration process could feel daunting, but their team has given us clarity, confidence, and real support at every step. They’ve taken the time to understand our model, guided us through the details, and built governance processes that truly fit who we are — not just generic templates. What stands out most is how approachable and collaborative they are; it feels like having a partner who genuinely cares about helping us get it right.
We didn’t offer stock policies and procedures; we worked together to craft a compelling and organisationally unique submission. We provided expert guidance, which empowered Perci’s key stakeholders with a deeper understanding of the application process. This engagement resulted in the establishment of formal governance arrangements and a clear audit trail.
After successfully securing a six-figure investment from Macmillan Cancer Support, Perci is expanding its services. The funding will be used to grow its partnerships with workplace and insurance providers, and the company is also exploring a virtual clinic model in collaboration with statutory health systems throughout the UK.
Over the past year, Perci Health have supported more than 3,000 members to access personalised, virtual care whilst reducing barriers to specialist support. Furthermore, more than 500,000 people have free access to Perci Health through partnerships with employers and insurers.
“Our goal has always been to close the cancer care gap. Providing tailored, expert-led care across the full cancer pathway, from prevention through to survivorship.”
We’re excited to see them continue to strive and are delighted to be a small part of their growth journey.
